Congratulations to all the composers whose pieces for big band were featured tonight at our Emerging Composer Competition, sponsored by Jazz in the Neighborhood and Doc's Lab! It was a great night of new, interesting and challenging music by composers I'm sure we'll all be hearing about in the years to come. Special congratulations to the three finalists: Shai Golan, whose piece "I Wouldn't Even Care" won third place and $100, Javier Nero, whose piece "The Eleventh Plague" won second place and $300, and Aaron Bahr, whose piece "Rubatosis" won first place and $500. All ten pieces that we played tonight were recorded and will be given to the composers. Also special thanks to two of the honorable mention composers who were at the gig: Christopher Main, who wrote "One More Look" and Nate Schwartz, who wrote "If You Build It..."
